Partners: UN-Habitat, UN Women, UCLG, Municipality of San José, SDG Fund
The Municipality of San José, in collaboration with UN-Habitat and supported by the SDG Fund, has developed a gender-transformatory action-oriented Voluntary Local Review (VLR) methodology to track progress on the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level. This process has aimed to enhance urban governance by aligning local policies with global sustainability targets, ensuring data-driven decision-making, and fostering inclusive participation. To strengthen gender and inclusion within this framework, the Her City approach was integrated, bringing a participatory and intersectional lens to the monitoring and evaluation of SDG localization. It is currently being piloted in Costa Rica.
